Robert Davila, 41, of Haskell, formerly of Bridgeport, died on July 24, and buried at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

One of those people that inspires us with their capacity to triumph through adversity is Robert Weston Arthur Davila. In Bridgeport, Texas, Robert was born to Gina Arthur and Robert Davila in September 1980. He grew up and earned his diploma from Bridgeport High School in 2000. Robert lived an unstable and tragic life as a child since he wasn’t religious.

Robert’s life changed irrevocably when he was barely 20 years old. Robert was hurt in an automobile collision in 2001 in Decatur, Texas. He found himself immobile when he awoke in the hospital. Robert was rendered completely crippled by the catastrophe. According to the physicians’ diagnosis of quadriplegic, he will never be able to move, eat, drink, or breathe independently.

Robert could initially only ingest food and liquids through a tube in his nose. He soon began teaching himself to chew food, and eventually succeeded. He was able to swallow and chew food once more.

Since then, Robert has been a resident of Justin, Texas’s The Longmeadow Care Center. Together, he and Mark, his roommate, grew close. Among the numerous topics Robert and Mark discussed was religion. Due to problems with his health, Mark passed away in 2004. Robert was devastated by that.

Robert asked for the large cross to be hung above his bed as a memory of his best friend and God after Mark’s death, and Mark’s sister donated it to Robert. After losing his best friend and spending years crippled, Robert made the decision to turn to God for guidance. The best course of action eluded him. Both Mark and his entire family were ardent Christians.

Before researching about Islam, Robert began reading about many religions, including Buddhism, Christianity, and more. The only religion he could understand was Islam. He read the biography of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the translation of the Qur’an, as well as Hadith, sayings, and traditions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Ten years after the disaster, in September 2011, Robert had a dream that forever changed his life.

I went to sleep and it was so real, Robert remarked. I was in the middle of the dessert; I saw hills and winds blowing the sand in all directions. At a distance, I saw a man, about 5’ 11” surrounded by other men listening to his speech. He was doing hand gestures. The moment I looked at the man, I knew it was Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet pointed at my cross and said, “Look at the Prophet Jesus, he eats food like us, he walks like us, he even uses the restroom like us. He’s human not God.

I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is His messenger, Robert stated unexpectedly as he awoke from his dream.

He had never spoken with Muslims, visited a mosque, or even held the Qur’an at that point in his life.

Robert became a Muslim as a result of his dream, and he spent a lot of time studying Islam through reading the Qur’an. After years of converting to Islam, Robert has gained the respect of many Muslims in America and around the world.

He is survived by his mother, Gina Arthur; son, Trevor Davila; sister, Amber King & husband Clint; brothers, Troy Davila, Harley Davila and wife Danielle, and Riley Davila; and James Davila; grandparents, Lyman and Jannette Arthur; nephews Z.Z. King and Lazarus Davila; and numerous other family and friends. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Robert Davila; and grandparents, Benisio and Emiliea Davila.
