Muhammad Ali won the 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” heavyweight title bout and the championship belt he received in exchange was sold at auction for $6.18 million.

Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, was declared the winner of the tense battle for the belt on Sunday, according to Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

Irsay acknowledged he bought the belt in a tweet, adding it to his touring collection of rock music, American history, and pop culture artifacts.
The purchase price was one of the largest sums ever paid for an item of sports memorabilia.

In the African nation of Zaire, Ali defeated the intimidating George Foreman to win back the heavyweight championship via knockout in the eighth round.

At the time of his passing, former American boxer Muhammad Ali had a $50 million fortune. In 1981, Ali engaged in his final match as a professional. Muhammad was one of the highest-paid athletes in the world when he was at his best. On June 4, 2016, he passed away at the age of 74.
