The first Qur’anic translation into Korean was made by DR. Hamid Choi Yong Kil (حفظه الله), a native Korean Muslim. He worked on this translation for more than 7 years under the guidance of King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur’an.

Hamid Choi Yong Kil is a South Korean translator and professor of Islamic and Arabic studies at Myongji University in addition to being a preacher. In 2021, he reportedly became the first Korean Muslim to translate the Qur’an and Sahih al-Bukhari into Korean. He is currently the chairperson of the Korea Muslim Federation (FMK).

Choi has degrees in Islamic studies from both the Islamic University of Madinah and Hankuk University in South Korea. From Omdurman Islamic University, he earned his PhD.

In addition to translating the Holy Qur’an into Korean, his scientific work also includes the translation of Sahih Bukhari. He also has more than 90 titles of other written works that are either self-authored or translated into Islamic disciplines.
