Hajj 2022: The Hujjaj Leaves for Makkah from Madinah

Three days remain for the hajj, as may be seen in the photographs below showing the hujjaj’s departure from Madinah to Makkah.

The start of Hajj is anticipated for July 7 this year. The very first rite of Hajj is entering ihram – a pilgrim’s sacred state – when crossing the outer boundaries of Mecca, called Miqat.

More than two million Muslims travel to perform the hajj each year, bringing in around $12 billion in income for Saudi Arabia.

All financially able-bodied Muslims have a major obligation to perform the six-day pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.

The Hajj takes place between the eighth and thirteenth days of the Islamic lunar calendar’s 12th month, Dhul-Hijjah, which is when the pilgrimage takes place.
