After Justice Tanko Muhammad resigned due to health issues, President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as Acting CJN, making him the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court.

Justice Tajudeen Olukayode Ariwoola, an Iseyin-born jurist succeeded Justice Tanko Muhammad as Chief Justice of Nigeria, who resigned due to health reasons.

Olukayode Tajudeen Ariwoola, JSC, CON, the current acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, was born in Nigeria on August 22, 1958. He is a judge on the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He attended the University of Ife to study law.

During a swearing-in ceremony held in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital, President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath of office to Justice Ariwoola.

He will act as CJN for three months as allowed by law. Before the 90 days elapse, the President is required to transmit his nomination as substantive CJN to the Senate for confirmation.

Prior until November 22, 2011, he served as a Justice of the Nigerian courts of appeal.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria swore in Olukayode Tajudeen Ariwoola, who had been appointed to the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s bench as a Justice.

Reports indicated that Justice Muhammad was gravely unwell prior to his resignation.
