Farida Kabir is a technology entrepreneur, epidemiologist, and software developer from Nigeria. OTRAC, an e-learning platform for African healthcare practitioners, was founded and is led by her. OTRAC was established in 2017 and operates in Nigeria and South Africa.
In 1992, Farida Mohammad Kabir was born in London, United Kingdom. She is the eldest daughter in a family of five.
She is an Information and Communication Technology Manager with over 10+ years experience as a Software Engineer, Data Engineer, Technical Product Manager and ICT Policy Advisor working across the private, public and development sectors. Farida Kabir works at the World Bank Group as a Digital Development Consultant (Infrastructure and Platforms: Broadband Pillar) Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.
Her entire life has been dedicated to mentoring and guiding new entrepreneurs, particularly female techpreneurs in Northern Nigeria; this has shaped the mission that she has established through the Center for Strategic Enterprise Development (CSED).
Farida’s tech career reached a pinnacle when the Abuja Google Developer Group (GDG Abuja) named her as the team lead for Google Women Techmakers. Google’s Women Techmakers program gives women in technology visibility, community, and resources. Leading Ladies Africa’s (LLA) list of the 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria for 2019 included Farida as one of the 100 women on the list. She was the only Nigerian among five Africans to be honored by French President François Hollande in 2016 for her pioneering entrepreneurial achievements in the field of health technology.
Education
Farida Kabir was educated in Lagos, Nigeria, and Kaduna, Nigeria. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Biological Science at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, from January 2009 to April 2014. The Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program of the NCDC trained her as a front-line field epidemiologist in 2015. She was awarded a Visiola Foundation scholarship to study software development later on. Kabir also has a World Bank-affiliated MBA.
