
Shireen Abu Akleh was shot in the head by Israeli forces while on assignment in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank.
“Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh died of wounds from Israeli gunshot in occupied West Bank,” Palestine’s Health Ministry said.
On Wednesday, Shireen was slain while reporting on Israeli operations in Jenin.
“The circumstances of her death are not clear,” Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim said, “but videos of the incident show Abu Akleh was shot in the head.”

Ibrahim said from Ramallah, Palestine, “What we know for now is that the Palestinian Health Ministry has announced her death. Shireen Abu Akleh, who has been covering the events unfolding in Jenin, specifically an Israeli raid on a city to the north of the occupied West Bank, when she was hit by a bullet to the head.”
“As you can imagine, this is a shock to the journalists who have been working with her.”
Through tears, Ibrahim described Abu Akleh as a “very well respected journalist” who had worked with Al Jazeera since the second Palestinian Intifada began in 2000.
