The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed personnel at mosques across Zamfara ahead of Tahajjud and Itikaf, according to the State Commandant.
Itikaf (seclusion in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan) is for the completion of the benefits of fasting. If a person has remained denied of inner peace and tranquility and has been unable to concentrate on prayer and supplication during the earlier part of Ramadan, he can make amends for it through Itikaf.
Worshippers live and sleep in Mosques during Itikaf. As a result, the NSCDC in Zamfara dispatched personnel to protect worshippers and religious sites.
“The NSCDC warned strongly that all hoodlums and miscreants should stay off all Mosques and places of worship throughout Itikaf and beyond”, according to a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ikor Oche.
He noted that,”The holy month of Ramadan is held in high esteem as Muslim Faithful use this period for sober reflections and to make amends with God Almighty, so, on no account will anyone be allowed to truncate the flow of prayers in this period with nefarious activities.”
“The Rapid Response Squad and the Special Intelligent Squad of the Corps have been charged to monitor and place intensive surveillance in all the Mosques where these prayers will be conducted to avoid any breach of security,” the NSCDC continues.
Mr. Ikor declares that all the Mosques have become the proteges of the Corps and as such, no hoodlum or miscreants will be spared in the advent of any breach of peace or show of criminality.
The Command, on the other hand, wishes all Muslim faithful a happy Ramadan and assures them of appropriate protection during the holy month and beyond.
