Afghanistan has been rocked by a series of explosions that have killed dozens of people in the northern cities of Kunduz and Mazar-e-Sharif.
According to a hospital official, a huge bomb in a Shia mosque killed at least ten worshippers and injured another 40 on Thursday. At least five people had died, preliminary assessments.

Taliban official Zabihullah Noorani, the head of Balkh province’s communication and culture department, had earlier stated, “There are at least 25 casualties.”
A health officer in Kunduz confirmed that 11 people were killed or injured in another bomb.
The provincial health authority’s Najeebullah Sahel expressed concern that the death toll would rise.
“The explosion struck a vehicle carrying mechanics contracted by the ruling Taliban,” Matiullah Rohani, the province’s chief of information and culture, stated.
