Muslims all over the world are gearing up for Eid Al-Fitr this Ramadan 1443. Eid is celebrated on a different day each year depending on when religious leaders around the world observe the new moon. Family get-togethers are common during this holiday.
The Muslim community gathers for prayers and a discourse on Eid al-Fitr, which is celebrated with tremendous excitement. People dress up and hug one other as they wish each other Eid Mubarak. Eidi is when children get presents and money from their elders. People in Nigeria visit one other’s homes to meet and greet one another, and they are served an extensive Eid feast that includes dishes like as Jollof Rice, Pounded Yam, Amàlà, and Tuwo, among others.
The first day of Eid al-Fitr will be May 2 in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, and Turkey. Muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom (UK), and New Zealand, on the other hand, will see the new moon of the month of Shawwal on Sunday 29th Ramadan 1443 AH, which corresponds to May 01, 2022.
According to the most recent pronouncements from Afghanistan, Ramadan will end on Saturday, while Shawwal and Eid Al Fitr will begin on Sunday, May 1.
Nigeria
Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, said that the Muslim holiday of Eid-el-Fitr, which celebrates the conclusion of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, will be observed in Nigeria on Monday.
On Saturday, the National Moonsighting Committee of Nigeria announced it on Twitter.
“His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Monday 2nd of May as the first day of Shawwal. No positive sighting claims were received from members of the National moonsighting committee and other Emirates. The Sultanate will release an official statement shortly,” it added.
Saudi Arabia
Fasting during Ramadan continues in Saudi Arabia, despite the fact that the 2023 Shawwal moon has yet to be seen, as predicted, according to Muslim Voice.

Due to the fact that fasting continues on Sunday, Eid-ul-Fitr will be held on Monday.
United Arab Emirates, Qatar
The UAE Moon Sighting Committee and Qatar’s Ministry of Religious Affairs have formally declared Monday, May 02, 2022 as Eid al Fitr’s First Day.
In the absence of any verifiable reports of Shawwal Moon Sighting today on Saturday, officials in the separate countries said this.
Pakistan
Meanwhile, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Pakistan’s moon sighting body, will gather at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony’s office on Sunday to sight the moon of Shawal 1443 AH.
In the meantime, the zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will meet in their respective headquarters, according to a ministry press statement issued on Saturday.
Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, will give the final verdict on the sighting of the crescent or otherwise based on the information obtained.
Singapore, Australia
Muslims in the two nations will celebrate Eid al Fitr on Monday, May 02, 2022, according to the Australian National Imams Council and Majils Ulama Islam Singapore.
In a statement, the Australian National Imams Council said: “Sunday May 01, 2022 will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan 1443H, and Monday May 02, 2022 will be the first day of Shawwal 1443H, as well as Eid Al Fitr.”
US, Canada
The Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculations as a valid Shar’i technique for estimating the start of lunar months, including Ramadan and Shawwal.
According to the council,”The Astronomical New Moon is on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 20:28 Universal Time. On that day there is no place on earth where at sunset the elongation is 8 degrees and moon is 5 degrees above the sun. Therefore Shawwal 1443 cannot start the next day. Hence the first day of Shawwal is on Monday, May 02, 2022, insha’Allah. Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Monday May 02, 2022.”
Meanwhile, the Association of Muslims in Canada noted that, “This year, Eid ul Fitr 2022 is expected to be celebrated on Monday, May 02, 2022. However, the exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon of Shawwal 1443AH, 10th month of Islamic Calendar.”
French, UK
Eid Al-Fitr is expected to fall on Monday, May 02 in France and the United Kingdom, according to the French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM) and Islamic Relief in the United Kingdom. Wifaqul Ulama, London, has advised Muslims in the United Kingdom to observe the new moon on the 29th of Ramadan 1443 AH, which corresponds to May 1, 2022.
New Zealand
The Eid moon will be seen by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand on Monday, May 02, 2022. In contrast to the rest of the globe, Muslims in New Zealand began fasting for Ramadan on April 4, 2022.
Afghanistan
On Sunday, the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan announced the sighting of the Shawwal moon and Eid-ul-Fitr.
Evidence of the moon sighting has been received from Farah, Ghazni, Kandahar, and Ghor, according to the Afghan Interior Ministry, therefore Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country on Sunday.
