The Kwara state government’s Panel of Enquiry into the Hijab Crisis at Oyun Baptist High School in Ijagbo has begun its deliberations, promising to be fair to all.
The group, led by Dr. Shehu Omoniyi, is charged with investigating the problem, identifying the victims, critically evaluating the roles performed by individuals, and recommending to the government the best course of action.
Following the reluctance of certain Christians to allow Muslim female students to wear hijab in the Christian-named government school, one person, Habib Idris, died in the conflict, and several others were injured.
Mr. Sunday Lambe, the school’s principal, was the first to stand before the panel.
He verified that Christian missionaries had sent back the Hijab-wearing female students, despite a government circular allowing those who wanted to wear the hijab to do so.
