How Oyo TESCOM Defied FG Holiday, Organized Screening Exercise for New Teachers

Despite the federal government holiday, the Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) organized a screening process for newly hired Oyo teachers on Monday, July 11, 2022. TESCOM was established by Oyo State Law of 1992 as an offshoot of Defunct Central Schools Board (CSB) to oversee the Recruitment and Management of Human Resource of Post Primary Schools in Oyo State. The Commission is directly responsible to the Executive Governor of the State through its Executive Chairman.

In spite of opposition from Oyo State’s Muslim faithful and the Federal Government of Nigeria declaring the 11th and 12th of July, 2022, as a holiday for Idul-Adha, Pastor Akinade Alamu, Chairman of the Oyo State TESCOM organized a screening exercise for selected newly recruited teachers on Monday, July 11, 2022.

After wasting those teachers’ expensive transportation costs, time, and effort, Pastor Alamu dispersed them. He then restricted the screening process to teachers in the following groups: 1. Those who are physically challenged; 2. Those who are pregnant (8 months and over); 3. Those who are nursing moms; and 4. The first 100 individuals to register their names.

Recall that in November 2021, Evangelist Kolendar visited numerous public schools while working for Pastor Alamu in order to persuade defenseless Muslim children to accept Christianity.

Pastor Alamu’s attitude in a multireligious country like Nigeria only demonstrates carelessness, religious prejudice, abuse of public authority, and insensitivity.
