Two cases of Muslim women’s rights being violated at the ongoing JAMB examination had been reported. One happened at Bowen University centre in Iwo and another one at the Federal Polytechnic Ede centre in Osun State.
In Iwo, a report of Hijab wearing Muslim Student who was denied entrance to the examination centre (because she puts on Hijab) was made know to the Taawun Human Rights initiative “THURIST” director, Barrister Sulaimon Tadese under the office of the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland.
The Barrister took the matter to Al-Wazeer of YORUBALAND, Sheikh Yahkub Abdul Baaqi, and through the intervention of the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the matter was laid to rest and the affected student was allowed to sit for the exam.
According to the report from Ede in Osun State, a veiled Muslim lady was denied the entrance to the CBT centre until she removed her veil. But the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland has ordered the THURIST to investigate the matter.
While reacting, the Grand Mufti said, “This is what we are saying. They have not become president, we are being harassed and victimized. If they now become the President, what will now become of Yoruba Muslims?
