The Nigerian Mosque: Sultan Bello Mosque

Built in 1962 and named after the former Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Bello. The Sultan Bello Mosque is one of the largest mosques in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The Mosque is also known as The Kaduna Central Mosque. It is located at Unguwan Sarki along Ali Akilu Road Kaduna, just after the NDA Bus Stop close to Area House Rabah Road Kaduna.

In a book titled, “History Of Sultan Bello Mosque In Northern Nigeria, Circa 1962-1999: Sultan Bello Mosque: 1962-1999” the author Fatimah Dembo Bello noted that, the building was initiated by the Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of the Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello. Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, the then Grand Khadi of the Northern Region along with other Sheikhs conducted series of activities in the mosque that involved the people of the town and the entire Northern Region fully. This is because the programmes were fully aired on television and radio stations.
