A faith-based secondary school, Vanguards Academy has compliment Hajarat Abiodun Alli, an alumnus of school who recently won the 2021 Bolaji Abdullahi Prize For Literature. Her story would be awarded a cash prize of ₦300,000.
The competition was organised by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, a former minister who served in the cabinet of the Ex-Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, as the Honourable Minister of Youth Development in July 2011, and defunct as the Minister of Sports.
Vanguards Academy said, “her story titled, Lost In The Blind Man’s Corner made the top ten entries in September and the top three entries in October before the story finally emerged as the winning entry in November.”
“This is coming after the success of a short film written by her titled ‘Monitoring Spirits’ which was produced by the Ebony Life Creative Academy and has been screened in many film festivals,” the school added.
The Bolaji Abdullahi Prize for Literature was established in February 2021. The Prize is characterised by the freedom of style, genre or choice of thematic resonance; as long as the themes considered are chosen from any of the wide range of concerns that are universal as well as relevant in today’s society. Only writer resident in Kwara State will be awarded the prize for an original and outstanding short story.
