The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has waded into the issue of the planned attempt by the Federal Government to evict the people of Islamic City from their homes, according to a statement signed by the organisation’s Admin Secretary Kazeem A. Oyinwola on 8th Rabi’ Al-Awwal, 1443 equivalent to 15th October, 2021.
He noted that, this decision of MULAN is consequent upon a formal request from the Islamic City urging the Association to intervene on this imminent threat to the existence and shelter of the people of the city posed by the Federal Government agency in connivance with some religious bodies in the area.
The religious based association said, “News recently surfaced that the Federal Government agency plans to construct three bridges and interchanges along Lagos-Ibadan expressway; the construction that the people of Islamic City alleged would occupy at least 4 out of the 6 acres of land they are occupying.
In a letter jointly signed by the Chief Imam and Secretary of the City, dated 10 October 2021 and addressed to MULAN president, Zumratu Jamiu Mimin Society of Nigeria, the umbrella body of the people of the city, asked MULAN to come to their aid.
In a quick reaction to the request, the President of MULAN has therefore directed the Association’s 1st Vice President, Dr. Kazeem Olaniyan, to coordinate a preliminary investigation into the issues along side the Chairmen of Lagos and Ogun States branches of the Association. The Association expects the report of the committee within one week.”
