On Friday, September 17, 2021, a Nigerian chemistry educator, researcher and the 3rd best scientists in Nigeria (Pure and Applied Sciences), Prof. Abass A. Olajire, died at 59 in Ogbomoso, Oyo state while during Jummat prayer and has been buried according to Islamic rights.
Abass Olajire, a professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso slumped and died on Friday, September 17 at the age of 59 at Ansarudeen Mosque during Jummat prayer on Friday at Oke Ado area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
LAUTECH Public Relations Officer of the institution, Lekan Fadeyi confirmed the death of the don. He stated that the professor was confirmed dead at LAUTECH teaching hospital.Fadeyi said, “He slumped at the Ansarul Deen Mosque, Stadium Road and was confirmed dead at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital”.

The globally reputed distinguished scholar of industrial/environmental chemistry, Prof. Abass Abiola Olajire was recently listed among the top scholars in the world and was ranked 128th of 66,925 of the top world scientists, according to a ranking released by Elsevier B. V (Netherlands) and a team of researchers led by Prof. John P.A. loannidis from Stanford University, United States.
Born on July 13, 1962, Prof. Olajire joined Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in 1990 as an assistant lecturer. He is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Ibadan. In 1994, Prof. Olajire was a recipient of the Best Lecturer award by the LAUTECH branch of National Association Mathematics Students. He was a member of the Nigerian Association Petroleum Explorationists, Chemical Society Nigeria, Oluyole Club, New York Academy of Sciences, and Chemical Society Nigeria.
