We all need not be reminded that our religion emphatically prohibits scanty dressing and wanton display of women’s charm. This deen of ours also prohibits music.
Ironically, however, there’s this worrisome trend among Muslim sisters who now, in the name of advertising their wares online, use promotional videos and pictures showing things that an upright Muslim should ordinarily close his/her eyes to.
These videos and pictures show women displaying their bodies or fiddling with their hair, dancing, talking seductively, and doing all sorts — all in a bid to advertise one product or another. Worse, these videos are laced with crazy music!
Fashion- and skincare-related adverts are the biggest culprits. So, sisters dealing in these stuff should fear Allaah with regards to how they promote their businesses especially online.
It’s even more interesting that most of the sisters who slap up these videos for us to see do not take or post pictures of themselves or listen to music themselves, which leaves one with the assumption that they are not oblivious of the rulings regarding these things.
Even if some of these pictures are harmless to women, always remember that there are males who would see your Facebook timeline and WhatsApp status. And by rubbing these indecent videos/photos or music in their faces, you’re practically shoving fitnah down their throats.
Honoured sister, you can advertise your product by taking just a picture of the product and posting that. If it’s a wearable product,for example, you can blot out all other parts of the wearer’s body while leaving only the product to show — after all, it’s the product you’re trying to advertise.
Again, my sister, you don’t have to use the very same promotional materials provided by the manufacturer, as they are mostly not free of these haram things. If the images in the video are decent enough, you can mute out the music before uploading. Better yet, create your own videos that are Islamically safe.
Go and know that Allaah does not put His barakah in a venture that involves things that He has made haram. And don’t ever be deceived to think your product won’t sell if you don’t use these haram materials.
May Allaah rectify all our affairs, put barakah in our businesses, and make it easy for us to do things that please Him. Aameen.
