The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR and President-General of Nigeria’s Supreme Council for Islamic affairs has announced that the Ramadan fast would continue on Wednesday and declared Thursday, May 13, as Eid-el-Fitr day.
This is contained in a statement by Wazirin Sokoto Sambo Junaidu today May 12. According to the statement, the Ramadan fast will continue today May 12.
The premier Islamic traditional ruler in Nigeria noted that, a report of the National Moonsighting Committee of the NSCIA revealed that no moon was sighted in the country on Tuesday.
“The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee did not receive any report from the moon sighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1442AH. Therefore, Wednesday 12th May 2021 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1442AH.”

Similarly, the Saudi Royal Court in a statement on Tuesday night announced Wednesday as the last day of Ramadan and declared Thursday as the first day of Eid Al-Fitr. The decision came after Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee, said the crescent of the month of Shawwal could not be seen from the Tamir observatory, the report noted.
