The Minna Central Mosque is one of the historical monuments in Niger State. It’s a major place of devotion with all the facilities provided for the convenience of all categories of worshippers.
It was commissioned by the late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki. The Central Mosque is situated in the central area of Minna, in the Unguwar Gabas area of the city adjacent to Bosso Road. A few meters away from the Central Mosque is the Emir’s palace. It is the official residence of the emir of Minna,
The mosque was constructed by Bilfinger & Berger. An Austria company named Kny Design was given the task of finding a new form of roofing and realized this with gold anodised aluminum panels that were precisely calculated, produced and installed.
The Behamberg based Austria company noted that, the overlaps are made with special profiles and give the roof skin a depth effect. The end of the dome was formed by an enamelled ring that received Islamic decorative elements. All The decorative gates, partitions between men’s and women’s prayer rooms and the complete lighting system for this mosque project was supplied by Kny Design. Harald Kny specially designed all lanterns and chandeliers for this building.
